Seminar on Media Innovation - Final Paper Ideas

The final paper idea is an amalgam of ideas from Friedman's "The World is Flat" as well as an interview from the August 06 issue of Forbes.

Having had the pleasure of recently reading Friedman's work, he crystallizes what can be described as a global push toward digitalization, compression and immediacy. He also discusses how nation-states like India have positioned themselves favorably through institutions of higher learning, and that they are prepared to continue their progress in technology. Simply put, India is beating the US to the punch, and before too long Americans may begin to wonder what happened to the high-paying jobs.

The Forbes interview briefly discusses the possibility of American companies innovating various products and designs to combat outsourcing. This would be an interesting area for further study: how might innovations and greater creativity serve to solidify the United States as an economic power tomorrow? One case study might be the auto industry - a shift to renewable forms of energy would re-establish American primacy in the industry and would create employment for auto factory workers as well.
